How to Keep Your Skin Healthy During The Winter Months

1. Opt For A Lukewarm Shower
A hot shower does certainly feel good when it’s frigid outside, but it can really dry out your skin. In order to keep this from happening, you should opt for a lukewarm shower instead. If you can’t stand the idea of showering without using hot water, you should limit your showers to less than 10 minutes.
2. Choose Clothing That Won’t Irritate Your Skin
While some clothing materials are warmer than others, they can irritate your skin. Wool tends to be very rough, and many people find that it causes them to itch. You are better off choosing clothing that’s made out of cotton and layering your outfit with additional items in order to stay warm.
3. Only Use Cleansers That Don’t Have Any Added Fragrances In Them
We all want to smell good each day, but your cleansers may actually be harmful to your skin in the winter. This often has to do with the fact that the fragrances can be irritating to skin that's already dry. During the winter months, you may need to only use cleansers that don’t have any added fragrances in them. This will prevent your skin from becoming red, itchy and irritated.
4. Moisturize Your Entire Body Several Times A Day
The cold weather can really deplete your skin of the moisture that it needs. Many people find that they have to moisture their entire body several times a day in order to keep this from happening. When you are on-the-go, you should pack a moisturizer that you can apply to exposed areas of your skin every couple of hours. You may need to apply it to your hands more frequently if you tend to wash them with the decisions you’ve made. 
5. Use A Humidifier At Home
When you have the heat on inside, it removes moisture from the air and can make your skin dry. This is why it’s a good idea to use a humidifier while you are at home. It will add moisture to the environment without affecting the temperature inside of your home.
6. Drink Enough Water
You will never be able to combat dry skin if you aren’t giving your body the water that it needs. Even if you barely sweat because you rarely spend any time outside during the winter, you still need to drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.
7. Change Out Of Wet Clothes Immediately
The winter months can bring with them a lot of damp weather. Because of this, you may find that you have to deal with a lot of snow or sleet that causes you to get wet more than you’d like to. Anytime this happens, you do need to change out of your clothes immediately. If you don’t, you may find that your wet clothes cause irritation to your skin. A lot of people get itchy and develop a rash if they stay in wet clothes or shoes for too long.

While the winter months can cause a lot of skin irritation and dryness, you don't have to just deal with this until it gets warmer outside. There are plenty of ways that you can keep your skin healthy no matter how cold it is outside. You may find that you have to change your skin-care routines or some of your habits slightly during this time of year, but it will be worth it in order for you to keep your skin healthy and vibrant no matter how bad the weather is outside.
